Hey, people! I’ve decided to start some beauty blogging for no reason other than that I’ve been enjoying the vast bejesus out of reading beauty blogs and I think the world should hear what I have to say about the products I enjoy. I have a strong fondness/preference for indie makeup and perfumes and so you’ll see a certain bias towards that, though it certainly won’t be exclusive.
Here’s a brief rundown of what things I will be talking about, in approximate expected order of frequency (subject to change without warning):
Perfume (all kinds)
Assorted Lip Things (lipsticks, glosses, balms, etc.)
Bath and Body Products (lotions, shower things, soap, etc.)
Assorted Eye Things (shadows, liners, pencils, etc.)
Assorted Face Things (cleansers, moisturizers, concealers, etc.)
Body Image (may include discussion of self harm and weight issues. will be tagged & warned appropriately)
I may also post any/all of the following, in no particular order of frequency:
Nail/Eye/Lip/Face of the Day
Frivolous Gushing About Things I Love
Self-Indulgent Nattering About Why I Use Certain Products, Brands, and/or What They Mean To Me.
There may be guest posts, if I can convince my friends to occasionally join me in this goofyshoes party.
So sit back, have a beer, and enjoy reading about things without which we’d all probably be just fine.
About the name:
Vanitas Rex, literally something like “Empty King”, more figuratively both an oblique reference to a dinosaur (because I love dinosaurs) and vanity, as well as an impression of how I often feel about beauty products. I love them, but that love was fairly recent in appearing and there’s still so much about the vast beauty industry that amuses, baffles, and occasionally distresses me.
Be also forewarned that my idea of what constitutes “beauty” may not match your own. I’m not really that far off the standard in many respects, but I also don’t fall within any particular theme.
Also, as with all blogs, I will be learning as I go along, and this especially includes photography. Currently, I am terrible at it, and primarily focused on using the phone on my camera. I have a small point-and-shoot digital camera, too, but barely even scratch the surface of the settings. Please bear with me as I figure out what’s what and how to use my tools of choice.
